It may not necessarily be as bad as you think.

First of all, most young people are programmed to be attracted to the opposite sex ~ even if they are in a relationship.
It's a biological, hormonal, built-in thing.

Second; It is quite common for girls & boys, who are separated for any length of time & are missing their boy/girlfriends, to get involved in flirting with others. I don't know why ~ maybe it's similar to rebound relationships.

Third; People do kiss, even those in relationships.
I don't mean passionate kissing, necessarily, but kissing none-the-less.
'Hello' kisses, 'birthday' kisses, 'Christmas' kisses, 'goodbye' kisses, etc.
And sometimes ~ especially if alcohol is involved, or it has been an emotional time, or they are missing their partners, it may become something more than the usual peck on the cheek, or even the mouth.

What happens next depends upon the true feelings of the individuals involved.

Sometimes people regret the kiss; sometimes they don't.

But, because it has happened, the individuals may start to question their feelings.

Something relatively innocent may be forgotten; or it may lead to life changes.
