I'm Shy - How do I Ask her Out?

I like this girl that I hang around with, but I'm kind of shy. I've known her for three years and I know her likes and dislikes and she knows mine. I'm afraid I'll get rejected by her because she might just think of me as her friend only. so I don't know what to do in this situation.
