Dating others can be a great idea

I don't understand why everyone thinks this is a bad idea. If your gf/bf breaks up with you, they may not want to see you dating someone else for the reasons others have stated.

However, what they want doesn't have a lot to do with how they feel. Dating others, yet not getting serious right away, can send the message that you're going to be happy without them and move on. They'll know you don't need them.

In response, there's a good chance they'll become insanely jealous and want you back. I've seen this happen with several friends before.

Don't jump into a relationship with someone else, but definitely date other people, and see if you can subtly let them know about it. If they have any ounce of interest left in you, this will indubitably make them doubt their decision to leave you and they may want to get you back before anyone else can have you.
