Most zoos and science centers let you "adopt" a pet for a year with a donation - sending you updates on your pet´s progress and even allowing you visits to the pet. Adopt a pet with your partner, and watch it on the internet if possible, or read about it in the letters. It´ll help draw you together, and give you something you can share.
