Cheater can reform

I made out with a friend of ours at a party one night, told my girl what happened and she snapped (to be expected), I try to reassure her that nothing like this is ever going to happen again, but she doesn't believe me. I couldn't bare seeing that look on her face again, I have never seen so much pain. I couldn't bare going out of my mind again like I did after it happened.

She left to the other side of the country for a few months to live with her sister and "get away from it all", but tensions between her and her sister mounted, and now it's been a month and she's coming back in 3 days. All I want is for this to work out, because I really do love her with my whole heart. I should have been smarter than I was, but I wasn't. However, I am working hard on myself and I am working hard on keeping together (although it doesnt look great). What I'm getting at.. If your partner has cheated on you, don't fall into blindly believing all these comments you will see - ie; "once a cheater always a cheater". That is total bs, as every case is unique and must be judged on an individual basis.

I made the biggest mistake of my life, and risked losing the best part of my life.

Now I have to wander through a LONG dark tunnel w/ no light at the end to try and rebuild what we had - hopefully even stronger than it was before. And I know it's going to take forever, but I am not giving up on this.
