I feel really bad

I broke up with my boyfriend thinking it was getting too serious, but we kept sleeping with eachother and I was getting really confused. Then when I was on holiday he got with a close friend of mine and I was devastated...I know I brought upon myself but I trusted him and I didn't think he'd do it. I phoned him up and we had a really long chat and finally he said that now he couldn't be with either of us. I want to be with him, but I'm not sure how it will work out. I learnt that prehaps things are just better left, I should never have carried on the relashonship after we were finished.
