If you really love each other, you shouldn't need to "prove" it to anyone. Does it really matter what great-aunt Zelda thinks? Is her liking or not liking your partner going to change your day to day life? When she passes away in a few years, you will still have decades of joy with your partner. You choose someone because YOU love them. It's always nice when your family and friends agree. But if they disagree, it could be for the most bizarre of reasons. And since they aren't in that house every day, you are the only person who knows what makes you happy. If your partner is that person, then more power to you. You deserve to be happy, with a person of your own choosing.
