Kids tend to expect their parents to be married. Kids with divorced parents often fantasize endlessly about their parents getting back together again. By being married, you give the kids the stability they crave growing up, and form a secure base from which they can go out and meet their peers. There's enough that WILL go wrong in a child's life - so you try to start them out with as stable a setting as humanly possible.
