What should i say or do to make him like me back?

I think im in love with this gorgeous boy. Problem is we are friends. When we first met he told his friends that he thought i was dating material. Now that he knows me more i dont think he thinks of me that way but i still want to ask him out.

before i do i want to get close to him and let him know the real me. How should i do it without tripping over my words? What should i say or do to make him like me back?
