I am doing a research paper for a wiritng class. The topic that was given to us was advertising and we as individuals were responsible for narrowing down this topic to a specific issue of our choice that is somehow tied to advertising and the negative effects of it. I chose to do my paper on how advertisments containing sex appeal can affect a relationship(jealousy, self esteem issues, etc) such as how media portrays men and women on TV and what happens to a relationship when one or both partners are influenced by these images of such beautiful men and women. Speaking from personal experience, it made me feel sick to my stomach when my boyfriend made a comment about a Victoria's Secret model on TV, so I am wondering if advertisments like the ones I have described could lead to a divorce or break up due to jealousy issues or a decrease in ones self esteem?

I think you make a very good point and it should make for a good paper.
The media (TV, movies, magazines, newspapers, music, and videos) does a lot of damage to every one's self esteem and causes jealousy that is harmful. We all spend money on things more expensive than we need and that is the root of why the media does as it does.
And then we still suffer from lack of self-esteem because even after buying the perfume, suits, etc. we still don't look as good as the media makes us think we should. This problem goes back centuries... you can see it in paintings, sculpture, song, etc.
Let you bf know that it hurts you when he comments the attractiveness of other women. Be thankful he isn't into porn.
