Do people with these problems ever change?

my questions is Can a 26 year old man change his controlling jelous ways? i have been with this guy for 4 years and he has never "trust me", i have never done anything for him not to trust me but he still says he cant, so we have lots of problems, he is constantly insulting me and accusing me of cheating. I had just enough so we broke up a week ago, we have broken up before but we always get back together within days. This time is definite but i still wonder if we actually could have been happy. Do people with these problems ever change?
