Is he too immature?

my best friend whose been trying to get with me for a long time, seems so immature. i'm unsure about taking the next step with him, relationship wise. he's 18 and doesnt drive or work and is just completely lazy. he calls me up to drive him places, making me seem like his mom to do things for him. then he asks me if he can drive and says, "its only appropriate for a guy to drive the girl." I don't think he is mature or ready enough to begin a serious relationship with me. Do u think he's still worth going for?
