How to get back with "Jane"

ok so me and this girl lets say her name is jane were really close and we had been doin stuff together for the summer and basically were a "thing" but never official. then i hear that she didnt know how serious she wanted to get but then tells my friends that im everything that she wants in a guy but she just couldnt take a chance i guess. so then i talk to her best friend mary about jane and she says that jane isnt ready for a relationship and said that it prolly wouldnt work in the near future. so then i go and on a retreat make a move on mary....for some stupid reason then afterwards regreted it and broke that off kinda rough and now that basically killed all of my chances with jane because mary was her best friend and it made it seem like i just played her. but in all actuality it was because i still like jane a lot. Please help and what should i do...should i tell jane how i really feel and risk losing everyhing of just play it off slow and not take a risk but then have no chance of getting jane back
