Romantic way to ask someone out

Well i've been kinda serious with someone for more then a year and we been on a break and they were tired of makin the first move and wanted me to..so i had this thing planned i was gonna have them over, have candles lit everywhere, soft music playing, roses on the bed and walk up behind them with a huge bear and whisper in their ear if they'd go out with me. Well it got ruined cuz this person found out...So my question is what is another way to ask them out by being romantic?
