Tellling him you love him

I have been best friends with this guy for almost 5 years. We are in highschool, and went to the same school for 4 years until I moved to a school 5 miles away last year. We both know we like eachother, and I really wanna DATE him...the problem is that he sorta likes a couple other girls too..
I dont want to be rejected and screw up our relationship, and I dont know how he will take it after I tell him that I love him...should I tell him...or not? and when??!!
