We Were Fine then he Drifted Away

my boyfriend and i spent a lot of time together, he all of a sudden decided that he needed to spend more time studing, now we speak to eachother only when i call him. sometimes he would not take my calls. i don't know how to understand this at all, and what to expect.
please help me to better understand this situation, im frustrated

It really is important to get good grades in school, it affects your entire life. Maybe he really does need time to study, and you two were spending too much time together and hurting his grades. Show him that you support him in his efforts - send him email and real life letters and find ways to talk to him in person when he's at school. Keep up the contact in a way that doesn't interfere with his studying hours. See if he relaxes a bit once his grades come back up.
