Love is a different emotion for every one of us. There is no "standard definition of love". Some people fall in love every day with the newest cutie they see in the mall. Other people only "like" someone until that day they join hands at the altar, when they finally find the One Lifetime Love. Most people are somewhere in the middle, along a very long spectrum of like/love feelings. Heck, most of us change how we feel about our partner on a day to day basis, as feelings wax and wane over time.
Only he knows how he feels and only he knows what "name" he puts on it. Names are pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Who really cares what name he puts on his emotions. What matters is what emotions he feels and how he shows those feelings to you, and how you feel about the affection you are receiving.
