Does he like me?

There is this guy i have liked for many years. He is like a family friend and I've known him since i was 7. But the problem is that he is 3 years older than me and we dont go to the same school and we only meet up on weekends. And usually there are always other little kids that hang out with us too.Sometimes we dont meet for like 3 weeks.
But then he is really hard to read. One week he acts very close to me and everything and he talks to me and all. Then the next week he might act very distant. Before he had a girlfriend and he would talk to me about her and then we would also talk about other things. I dont know if he likes me or not because hes in highschool while I'm still in junior high. So its like a 3 year difference. And I like him a lot. Do you think i should just give up or is there still hope for me?

Don't worry about his changing feelings for you... he may be unsure himself about how he feels.
