On August 9th, 2008 I will finally be marrying my best friend.

Mike and I met at a church youth group meeting during our junior year of high school. We both went to different high schools, which maybe is why I didn't really notice him at first, although I talked to him and his friend (now roommate, Anthony). My first clear memory of Mike was him stealing my shoes and throwing them into the boy's bathroom in the fellowship hall (then not letting me get them).Any aggravation I had left from that little incident was gone the following weekend when he showed up at youth group in his Air Force JROTC uniform, since he didn't have time to change b/t the local Christmas parade he had marched in and the youth group meeting. He just looked so handsome and so grown up. Over the next year we had our ups and downs as we became good friends and both secretly dealt w/ having crushes on each other. It was all I could do to hide the jealousy I felt when I found out that he had taken our friend Laura to his senior prom, instead of asking me( all I could think was "I thought he liked ME!!!). We graduated from high school on the same day and attended each other's graduation parties. The next 3 years would see me through 2 nightmarish relationships and him focusing on work and school. Finally in March of 2005, I got out of my 2nd hellish relationship in a row. A couple days after the break-up my father and I were talking and he bet me that he could find me a date w/ a really nice guy who would treat me well and who I would want to see again. I didn't believe him, but decided I had nothing to lose; so I told my dad to go for it. The only condition was that I couldn't know until the night of the date who this mystery person was--it was to be a blind date! My father got work on finding me my "perfect date" and on March 21, 2005 I got a phone call from my mom, letting me know that the date had been arranged for that Saturday, March 26th, 2005--the night before Easter Sunday (a time for new beginnings). My ex (who I still talked to, stupid me!) found out and threw a huge temper tantrum in the student lounge at our school. I got mad at him, got my best friend and we headed out. I wasn't sure where I was gonna go, but as soon as I sat down in the driver's seat of my car, I decided I wanted to see Mike. So I drove to where he worked and parked next to his car (NOTE:If I had been thinking clearly, I would have realized it was only 2:30 in the afternoon and I would have thought that he was in class still--good thing I wasn't thinking clearly). I went in and asked the girl at the snack bar if I could see Mike. She went and got him and I immediately told him EVERYTHING. He said he was sorry to hear that my ex had been such a jerk but was glad to hear that I my father had found me a date w/ a nice guy and that he hoped I had fun. He then said he had to go sit in on a meeting, but that he would call me later. Sure enough, he called me that night and we talked for like 2 hours. This pattern would repeat itself every night that week. We talked about everything--movies, tv, music, and my upcoming blind date which I was nervous about. During one conversation, Mike told me that maybe if this blind date didn't work out, maybe we could hang out sometime. I agreed. Finally Saturday arrived and it was time for my big date. The doorbell rang at 8:20 and I came down the stairs. Imagine my surprise when I looked over at the couch to see MIKE sitting there. All I could do was laugh (thinking about it to this day makes me smile). He gave me a huge hug and asked if it was ok. I said it was and we headed out on our first date. After 2 years and 59 days together, Mike surprised me at the airport (he had to pick me up when I came home from a trip) with a marriage proposal. On August 9th, 2008 I will finally be marrying my best friend.
