Setting the Scene

If you are preparing to talk about any change in commitment level - going steady, moving in, getting married - be sure to set the scene so you can talk about it in a relaxed manner. Donīt start in on the subject when your partner comes home from school or work all frazzled and worn out. Try a delicious meal first, and some wine by a fire, or an evening on a beach. Bring the subject up in a gentle way, and give your partner time to digest the idea and to express thoughts or ask questions. A good commitment is one you both discuss and understand - not one that you leap into without thinking about the ramifications.
