First Anniversary Gifts

Visitor's Question from a 21-30 year old Female
My boyfriend and I are celebrating our first anniversary in 2 weeks. We also just moved in together this month. What would be an appropriate gift to give him? He also wants me to suggest types of gifts for him to give me. We both like romantic things.

Ah, you act as if there's some sort of universal present that all first anniversary couples love. That's like assuming that all moms want a microwave because they're "a mom" :)

The most important thing about any gift is that it reflects the giver's knowledge of the recipient. So the ONLY thing which is critical in you choosing a gift for your boyfriend is that it is what HE wants. Does he love horses? Motorcycles? Champagne? Yes, romantic is nice, but you want it to be romantic for HIM not just for "any guy". After a year together, this would be THE most romantic thing, to show him that you know him really well after all this time. If you just got him a box of chocolates or something, it would be saying "Here this is a generic guy present because you're a generic guy in my life."

If you both like to ski, rent a ski chalet for the weekend with a hot tub, ski together, hot tub soak at night. If you both love the movies, get a DVD set of your favorite movie with champagne and gourmet popcorn and treat yourselfs to a special evening. It comes down to what you love. Figure out what you both love, and then find a way to do those things together!
