My Boyfriend's Leaving in February - He Left Me

Visitor's Question from a 21-30 year old Female
My boyfriend and I just broke up tonight. He's in the military and he's supposed to leave in February for 6 months. When he broke up with me, he told me that that was part of why he was breaking up with me. He told me that it wasn't my fault, and that it was all his fault and that he needed time to think. He said he just couldn't see us together in the future.

We were doing so great like a week ago. It's so strange. But the funny part is, he visited his ex-finace today while I was working, then showed up on my break to tell me that's what he did.

What I want to know is if he broke up with me because of her or something else? Advice
Leaving "for war" - even when the war is mostly over - can be a very scary situation. It can also have you doing some serious thinking, and do a lot of "just in case" cleanup. It is very likely that your boyfriend decided that it was best to get everything settled before he left.

So he didn't want you left "hanging" when he left, wondering if or when he would return. So he broke up with you. Then he went to talk to his ex to clear up things with her, probably apologize for anything he did wrong to her, to clear his conscience. But then he felt guilty for talking to her, in case you thought he DID do this to get back with her, so he told you about it.

So in general I think he's just getting things settled before going into a dangerous situation. I would keep up a long distance relationship while he's gone - I have lots of advice here -

and then when he comes back, happy and healthy and having done his duty - there you will be :)
