Do you have some advice for this person?

Visitor's Question:
My boyfriend and I have been together for 5 years. We have had our ups and downs. The biggest problem is that he doesn't have time for me. His father is very ill and dying and has been for 4 of the five years we have been together. I spend many weekends alone when his father gets real sick and he has to be there with him. I love him but I feel so alone. I don't how to be supportive anymore. I feel selfish that I want him to give me some of his time. This has been an ongoing argument. He promises to try and change things but another situation with his father/family come up and things remain the same. I dont know what to do anymore and I'm starting to feel like I nag and resent him for making me feel this way. What should I do?

Our Suggestion:
Figure out what you feel is the minimum amount of time you need from him.

Be specific like one night out a week or two would be better. You have to take care of yourself by talking up because he doesn't have the energy to think of you (sad to say.)

Maybe you could offer to make dinner over at his father's house once in a while so you two could have time together that way.

You are in a tough spot, so no answer is going to be especially good. You are a saint for putting up with what you have. He probably feels bad too.
