Deliberately Recite Positive Statements
Your mind is an INCREDIBLY powerful tool that you do have control over. If you are upset about something, you tend to dwell on it in your mind, and make things worse. Instead, choose a POSITIVE statement about the situation.
For example, if you are heading to the dentist and afraid of the filling, repeat to yourself over and over again, "It will be over quickly, and then my tooth will not hurt any more." The more you say it to yourself, the more it will seem reasonable. Also, the act of "chanting" a phrase over and over again is naturally soothing and relaxing.
