Don't let your partner know that you have been soo miserable without him/her. Try to look as if youve been making yourself feel better by doing other things like a sport, friends, movies whatever. Letting your bf/gf know youve been miserable will probably make them feel bad butyou dont want anyone just to feel bad for you. Try to be the better person. some people just need ego boosters, you dont want someone like that
