Tales of the Ex @ RomanceClass -
Don’t worry he’s been arrested

It all started my senior year of high school….He was a little rough around the edges and my friends told me that he was not a “good” guy but I loved too much to see his flaws. He was your classic small town guy who loved the outdoors. One weekend, we decided to go camping with a group of friends. We were 36 miles up a dirt road with no cell phone service. As soon as we got to the site, we pitched our tents before it got too dark and soon enough the coolers were popped open and the cold beers were disappearing rather quickly. I thought that everything was going fine, but then, my boyfriend pulled me aside for a little chat. He was highly intoxicated, I could tell by how hard he grabbed my arm when he pulled me aside. He told me to go to our tent and make the “beds.” I told him that I wanted to finish my drink and say goodnight to my girlfriends that were up there. He looked at me like I was CRAZY. I asked him what was wrong and he said, “What the hell do you think you are doing?! Don’t argue with me! Just do it!” I was scared. I’d never seen him quite this angry before, so I did what he said. As he instructed, I went to the tent and rolled out the sleeping bags. I was in there for 5-10 minutes, and he hadn’t joined me, so I popped my head outside of the tent to see where he was, and I didn’t see him with everyone else, by the fire. I got out and went over there. No one had seen where he went. I was really worried and confused, so I just stayed by the fire and tried to enjoy myself with my friends. About an hour after he “disappeared” he came out of one of my best friends’ tent. He walked towards the fire while zipping up his pants and asked for a beer. I was in shock, and didn’t know what to think or do. I went over to him and asked what he had been doing. He acted as if nothing had happened, which obviously wasn’t true. A second later I heard the girl he was in there with yell to the girls she was by, “I’ll be right back I forgot my bra in the tent and it’s kind of uncomfortable.” So, I asked him again. He was getting enraged at my inquisitiveness. His face turned red and his fists tightened at his side. I hesitated before saying anything else, but when opened my mouth to tell him I was sorry and that I didn’t mean to accuse him of anything, his right fist left his side and met my left cheek, knocking me flat on my back. Girls screamed and boys yelled “Holy shit dude” as I lay stunned. I slowly gathered my senses and sat up to see not the least bit of remorse in his face. He looked completely satisfied at what he had done; almost like he thought that I truly deserved it. I stood up and hot tears began to run down my cheeks. I was ashamed and at a loss for words, so I turned my back on him and ran into the trees at full speed. After what felt like miles, I collapsed and cried even harder than I had ever thought possible. Once I regained my composure, I sat up and heard a stick break behind me. I spun around; only see him standing right behind me. I didn’t know what to do. Was he the same guy who stayed home from school to take care of me when I was sick, or had he come to give me more of what I “deserved?” He saw the hurt in my eyes and mocked me by saying, “Poor baby. Scared?” That was the last thing that I remember before waking up in a white room with an IV in my arm and my friends by my side. As I woke up, their eyes lit up. The first thing that they said was, “Don’t worry he’s been arrested and he won’t be hurting you anymore.” It just goes to show that you that your friends know you best, and you should listen to them before you let some guy convince you that he loves you.
