Tales of the Ex @ RomanceClass -|
If he is a true friend, he will honor your request and stick to it
My ex and I split about 25 years ago. Back then, we had known each other all our lives and when we were adults (our 20s) we finally got together and fell in love, hard! He left to go back to school and I never heard from him again until 21 years later. About 9 months after he left town, one of his relatives told me that he was getting married to someone else. I was devastated but recovered - or so I thought. Then, about 4 years ago, a member of his family died with whom I had been very close at one time. He got my e-mail address from a mutual contact at the funeral and he e-mailed about a month later. This was a few months before I was getting married to a wonderful man who I love so very much. Much to my surprise, all these supressed feelings came back for both of us. It was really scary for me. We both agreed we would and could be friends. But he has never come completely clean with me about his motives, his feelings (past and present) and with returning calls or e-mails. This guy is living in the past and wants to have his cake and eat it too. Take my advice, avoid the pain and don't bother. Ex-boyfriends think you may still be thier property and trying to "stay friends" only reinforces this. If you have to stay friends, make a pact that you won't contact one another for at least 3 months and then come back and reconsider it. If he is a true friend, he will honor your request and stick to it - as difficult as that may be. If it is true love, it will still be there 3 months, 3 years or 30 years later. And that is the kind of love you want to last.
