Abelard and Heloise
True story in the 1100's in Paris. Peter Abelard a teacher of theology at the Cathedral School (University of Paris) falls in love with his student the beautiful and brilliant (as she was known) Heloise who is about 20 years younger then him. They begin a passionate love affair and Heloise becomes pregnant. Abelard takes her to his family home in Brittany where she gives birth to their son. Leaving him in his sister's care to protect him from the enemies their love has made them they return to Paris and are secretly wed in the Cathedral of Notre Dame. Heloise's obsessive and jealous uncle Fulburt hires thugs who sneak into the house at night and castrate Abelard. Abelard and Heloise confine themselves to cloistered life in a convent and monestary. They begin a corrospondence that would last until Abelard's death. People became so moved by their letters that their graves were dug up and they were laid in a tomb at Pere La Chais cemetary in Paris together. To this day lovers travel to lay roses at their feet. Their letters are translated and many, many version and novels have been made of the 'Letters of Abelard and Heloise'.
Theirs is a love that proves true love never dies despite the tragedies it faces.
