When describing your alleged companion metaphorically, isn't it best to do it efficiently? Here we have 'My' --the possessive, showing ownership or dominance in association. Then we have 'little' -- more attempted disempowerment. Then comes the animal name: 'you're not even human; you're an animal--more stupid than me, the human in this relationship, and to be used by me for whatever labor I choose.' The type of animal gives another layer of meaning. For example, 'tweety bird' could easily evoke the image of a caged bird, forced to sing for the master, and not allowed to have much of a life other than twittering.
