Confused

We often have visitors write in with solutions to each others' problems. Here is a visitor's solution to one of our visitor's questions.

Original Visitor's Question from a 21-30 year old Male
I will try not to make this to long. I started liking this one girl at the end of our school year last year in June. I emailed her a lot during the summer. I stopped by her place a couple of times for random things, like to see her new car, or dog, or pick up a pie she made for me. (these visits were literally seconds long) I am a very shy guy, and have i guess most would call low self esteem. So it is very hard for me to even think that a girl might like me, let alone ask her to do something. I finally got up the courage to ask her to wear my football jersey, and she said yes she would as a friend. I also asked her if she want to see a movie and she said yes. (im assuming it was just two friends hanging out) To save some time, we ended up doing a couple of other things together and talked a lot. Once we got back to school this other guy started to talk her, and last week they started going out. I really thought she liked me, but im not going to be stupid and think "oh yah she really likes me, having a boyfriend dose not mean anything". Anyway, while i liked her i started to talk to this other girl a lot who was my friend, and her best friend. I told her how i liked that girl and she even kind of tried to help me find out if she liked me back, and sometimes when i wanted to just give up she told me i shouldnt. Well after talking to her so much.....Ive noticed a lot more things about her.....that i really like. She is a good listener, a great friend and is really thoughtful. She talks and smiles a lot around me and tells me i should be proud because i can make her laugh a lot (which she says few people can do) I really like her, but as i said before im really shy and dont know if i could even ask her if she likes me, Im also afraid that talking to her about her friend back then has ruined any chance i had. So does she like me or am i fooling myself? and is it bad that i like a friend of another girl i use to like?

User Submitted Advice from a 13-20 year old Female
Be Yourself

I think that you are doing fine :),
I mean, some girls like shy guys.
And if it wasn't meant to be with the girl that you liked before, then maybe it is meant for you and her friend to be together.
Remember, everything happens for a reason.
Try asking her to a movie, but make sure she knows its just as friends, you don't wanna rush things with girls.
If that date went well, and you both seemed to enjoy yourselves, then try again for a next date somewhere else.

Be sweet, and be yourself!
good luck ! (:
