I'm Lying to Cover my Past

We often have visitors write in with solutions to each others' problems. Here is a visitor's solution to one of our visitor's questions.

Original Visitor's Question from a 13-20 year old Female
My boyfriend and I broke up for about four months before we started going out again. During those months I was seeing a guy but only as "friends". I did kiss this "friend" a couple of times, though. Now that I am back with my old boyfriend he keeps asking me if I kissed anyone during the time that we weren't together. I told him I hadn't because I don't want to get him upset. I hate lying to him but I would really break his heart if I told him the truth. Should I keep on going with the story of not kissing anyone or should I tell him the truth?? Is it true that what you don't know does not hurt you???

User Submitted Advice from a 51-60 year old Female

I know what you mean. I recently had to tell the guy that I like that before we started going out that I had in fact danced with a guy that would have probably mad him mad if he had seen me and this guy. just tell him what is on your heart. Just explain the situation for what it is. And if he truly loves he he will accept the fact that you were with someone else for awhile and love you just the same. he might act surprised at first but just tell him the truth thats the best thing to do.
