It seems like she likes me, but sometimes it's hard to tell

Original Visitor's Question from a 21-30 year old Male
I met this girl while working on a play a few months ago. We almost instantly became great friends, and I quickly found out that we shared a several of the same interests - we both like theater, literature, the same music, etc. and we have the same sort of philosophy on life. However, I'd always sort of admired this girl from afar and I like her as more than a friend. Sometimes I get the same feeling from her, since she's rather willing to share her personal feelings and problems with me, and I've often suggested that we should get together and do something sometime, like watch a movie or go see a play. She always sounds willing, and I'm never too forward (no "Want to go on a date?" or anything like that), but when I try to get specific or even ask for her phone number, she starts to dodge the issue and I never get a straight answer out of her. We go to different schools and communicate mainly online, though when we worked on the play together we talked face-to-face a lot and hugged a lot towards the end. What should I do to take the next step? I'm tired of hitting this brick wall, and I really would love to spend more time with her, even if it was just as a friendship thing for a while, but I don't want to be too forward and scare her away as she is really important to me.

Hypothetical questions

ok i was in a really really similar situation - i was freinds wiv this girl for ages, she talked to me about personal stuff, and after a while i started to like her but didnt know wether she liked me. so i used this trick - what u do is play a hyperthetical situation game with her - basically say 'do u think 'this person' (sum1 u both know) and 'this person' (sum1 else u both know' could hook up? its pretty common game around freinds and its usually a way to kill time lol. so do this a few times and eventually say 'what about u and me?'. but be REALLY careful not to hint that u like her - make sure she knows its just hyperthetical. it worked really well for me :P best of luck!
