I thought I found Mr. Right...not just Mr. Right Now...

I'm a happy, laid back, very mellow girl that has no problem meeting people. I found a guy about three months ago that is pretty much just like me with some minute differences. He asked me to be his girlfriend after about a month of dating. We get along really well when we're together and seem like the epitimy of a great couple until about two weeks ago. I've been noticing some strange texts from his ex. She lives in a different city and she is his sister's best friend. The other night we went to a party and she showed up with his sister of course. He didnt speak to her from what I noticed and then after the party he said he was going to meet up with me at my apartment. He turned off his phone and did not make an effort to contact me. When I questioned him about why he stood me up he became defensive. I had a gut feeling that something was wrong and understood what that probably meant. He's told me he still has feelings towards his ex, but he claims he really wants to be with me and that he really cares about me. I really feel a lot of love towards him and I DO want to be with him since we are so compatible and have a great relationship aside from this problem, but I know I cant be with him if he's going to keep going back to his ex-girlfriend. How do I handle this situation without looking like a complete fool? Please Help!!! :)

If you haven't done so already, explain to him exactly how you feel and the consequences for your relationship if he keeps going back to his ex.
This isn't rocket science so he should clearly understand what you mean and why.
