Dating a Catholic or Orthodox Christian

Both the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church discourage and forbid respectively marrying someone from another religion. Therefore, be wary if you are dating a Catholic or Orthodox Christian, because if it is impossible for you to marry them, then dating them would probably not be a good idea. Also, both of these churches condemn pre-marital sex and cohabitation.

For a Catholic to marry a non-Catholic, the non-Catholic has to sign an agreement saying that the kids will be brought up as Catholics. A dispensation from a bishop is also required.

The Orthodox Church prohibits marriage between an Orthodox Christian and a non-Christian (marriage to Roman Catholics, Anglicans etc is possible). Again, the non-Orthodox person must sign an agreement to say that the children will be brought up as Orthodox Christians.

So if you're in love with a Catholic or an Orthodox Christian, think very carefully about it. Do you want to marry this person? If not, then there's not much point in pursuing a relationship, as they are told that dating/courtship is finding out if you want to marry the person you're dating.
