Trust your instincts

I just found out I am now an ex- member of the "Blissfully Unaware" club. My boyfriend cheated on me a year and a half into our now three year relationship. He had drunk sex with a drunk skank after being at a bar out of town. I have been faithful, and supportive of this person to a tee, and it all came crashing down on me with the realization that I mean so little to him deep down. If I could leave I would, but I am financially dependent, so I will continue to live with him. But, in my heart nothing can ever be the same, and I will carry this bruise unhealed for a long time.

My instincts were right the entire time, yet he went out of his way to convince me that I was paranoid, insane, delusional, needy, and a bad girlfriend for having dubious thoughts. If you can leave, do so and turn to your support network for help: I have none. If you can't, suffer the pain and never allow this person to access the heart you so willingly gave once upon a sweet time- keep it for yourself this time and water it with the love you now only have to produce for yourself.

There are several Hillary's out there, who have a reason larger than life to overlook infidelity. However, the rest of us need to move on, heal, and find someone new if possible. And please, if you are considering cheating- grow up. It is one of the most immature, thoughtless, and devastating things you can ever do to another person.
