Breaking Up :
Who Gets What? :
Friends and Family

When people break up, many initially think about how to choose who gets the TV and who gets the futon. However, once those things are taken care of, more long-term choices become apparent - do you have to divvy up friends, too?

In short, the answer is *no*. You normally donīt even know every single friend that your friend has. You donīt agree or disagree with who your friend sees when he/she isnīt with you - thatīs your friendīs choice. Your friends and family should be perfectly capable of maintaining friendships with both you and your ex. To force them to choose is cruel and unnecessary.

You have to help this too. Donīt ask your friends to convey messages. Donīt ask about your ex through your friend. In short, donīt *use* your friends.
