After you've made yourself known we all hope you find sucess. be prepared to accept that no is one of the two possibilities. If sorrowfully it is a no, it is important to remember that you still have a friend...(I never liked that phrase.."just friends") Saying just friends negates the importance of a friend...We would not say just gravity,or just someone who provides unconditional support.It is not a win or loose situation...It is a lateral move...sometimes it is better to keep things where they are an see if it changes in time. I have friends that are and likely will be closer in many ways than those I have dated. It can be disapointing...but not tragic..keep your perspective.
