Someone asked me the other day: 'What is 'love'?

I answered about great affection and trust, etc. But she continued:
What actually is it?
Where does it come from?
Whereabouts in you is it?

One of my thoughts was that love made you happy to be with someone, day in and day out, for many years, which might not be so easy with someone you didn't love.

What do you think?

What is love?

To me love is a very intense feeling you have for a person whether it be your partner or parent or child.

Then again a person can love their work, love life or love cooking. It can also be a zero score in tennis.

In Greek there are three words for love. These are:

'agape' meaning the love of God for people, the love of people for God and the unselfish love of people for others. This type of love is the primary characteristic of God's nature toward people.

The second Greek word for love is:

'philia' which is friendship or brotherly love.

The third Greek word for love is:

'eros' meaning erotic love.
