We were watching Vertigo as part of our quest to watch all movies in the AFI top 100. It was a little depressing because the hero had a great female friend who obviously adored him, and yet he dismisses her. I got the sense that she did care for him greatly and broke up with him because she didn't get the sense that he cared back. She was the one who stood by him when he was sick, who tended to him, and then he's off again after the elegant other woman.

What does this movie say about relationships? That men might "settle" for a friend when they really want a sexy "looker"?
