All I want to do is be his friend... nothing more

Last month I began talking to a guy who is known by a lot of my friends, but I have never met him. I'm kinda scared because he has already asked me to go to his yr. 12 ball and he's saying he loves me. I said no to his question about the ball but he still says that he loves me. What can I do in this situation? All I want to do is be his friend... nothing more.

It usually takes a lot of courage to tell someone you love them.

So it would be nice of you to let him down easily.

Say something like "It is really kind of you to say you love me, but
I am not ready for a relationship and would rather be your friend."
If he asks if there is any hope you should tell "I don't think so."
