Everytime I call her answer machine comes up

ok it is this girl that I've known for about 3 years. Right now I'm in 9th grade n she's in 8th grade. Back when I was in 8th grade, we started to like each other in the beginning of the school year. Later on, we really did'nt have time to talk or anything cause I would only see her passing the hallway on the way to class. I could never be late to class. So, later on she tells me that she'd rather be friends mainly because we did'nt have time for each other. Immediantly after that she hooked up with one of my friends which is in 8th grade at that time. A year later My friend is going out with another girl, so I'm thinging that this would be a good time to try to get back with my old girlfriend. ( I 4got to mention that my old girlfriend never calls me but one time I called her and asks her if she still likes me and she said she still likes me as a friend)Everytime I call her answer machine comes up. I just want to know what I should do to get back with her next year when she comes to high school.

This is a tough one to figure out.
The normal thing would be to make close friends with her, but you can't even get her to answer the phone.
How about buying her a card to mail to her. Write on it "I really like you! Please answer the phone or call me at 555-5555" and sign it.
