The problem is he only acts like he cares half the time

My ex boyfriend and I broke up sometime ago, but we continue to see each other and I still really care about him. The problem is he only acts like he cares half the time. It is like he switches on and off every other week. One week hes with me and everything is fine and the next week he is with another girl and he "really cares" about her. This has been going on for about two years now and I'm really tired of it. He won't date me again because he says he doesnt want to miss anything but he won't leave me totally alone either. What should I do?

My advice is to remain his friend and find someone new to date.
