Hey, my friend just broke up with her boyfriend (they had been goin out for like 8 months) and she came to me first (first guy that is) and I was wondering how I could kind of help her out but let her know that I like her without moving too fast.

Then later when you are closer to her, tell her you are developing feelings for her. This will tell her that you like her and she will probably says she has feelings for you too.
