Visitor's Question from a 21-30 year old Male
My girlfriend of 5 years broke up with me a month and two weeks ago. I am 24 and she is 22. We truly had a great relationship together, well at least for the first 4 years. She just finished her first semester of nursing school this year. I knew things were going to be a little different because she would be concentrating on school instead of me the whole time. But I accepted it and knew things would be a little different. Well, when this happened I started spend time helping a friendís band out, to fill my free time. Sometimes I would get frustrated and acted slightly different towards her, but I was never mean or a complete jerk to her. We werenít spending the same amount of time together and she and I both noticed that but never addressed it. When she broke up with me, I never expected it. She told me she still loves me but is not sure if she is still in love with me. She said she needs some time to figure out if I am what she wants for the rest of her life, because we have talked about marriage, kids, and all that kind of stuff. She said she just needs to be alone right now and figure out who she is and what she wants. She has never giving me any indication that we are completely over she has said things like if you want this to work you just need to give me this time and space. I have told her that I respect her decision and fully support her. I have told her that I am still love her and am in love with her. We had a serious talk about 2 weeks after we broke up, because I was still confused about some things she accepted and we talked for about 2 hours. I have seen her on several occasions and have had a few good times since we broke up. I still call her every once and a while to see how she is doing and just to talk about things other than us. She has said she doesnít want to cut of commutation between us but it always seems like Iím the one doing all the calling. She has called me a couple times but always to ask me a question about something, but we end up talking for like 15-20 min. A mutual friend talked to her the other day and she said she just wants me to get my s**t together and yes we may get back together. I love her with all my heart and want to get back with her. A little help on what to do next would be greatly appreciated Thanks.
Your next step is to find out from her what her comment meant about you getting your s**t together. This is critical for you to know otherwise you can't change yourself to please her. Think about it yourself. You know yourself better than anyone and you should be able to figure out what she wants from you. But it is better to hear it from her.
Whatever she says, take it seriously since she is sharing some of her strongest feelings when she tells you.
Promise to work hard on improving yourself and maybe she will come back.
