I've already taken steps to move on by accepting a job offer in another city

Visitor's Question from a 21-30 year old Female
My boyfriend and I have been together for 4 years. We have 2 kids and live together. He cheated on me for a few months a year ago and I recently cheated on him. For various reasons, I've been unhappy in this relationship for a while and haven't expressed that to him. I don't feel like this relationship is going anywhere and I want to move on, be alone, regain my self-confidence, and get back to me. He has been physically and emotionally abusive in the past and has gone so far as to hide in the trunk of my car to see where I'm really going or who I'm calling on my cell phone and throw rocks through the windshield of my car (in front of our kids). He feels like he can't live without me. How do I tell him that I'm not happy with him anymore? I feel obligated to stay and work things out because we have kids and becuase I cheated on him. The bottom line is I don't want this relationship anymore and I want to be alone, I just don't know how to tell him that and make sure he understands. I've already taken steps to move on by accepting a job offer in another city. How do I break all of this to him. He is extremely emotiona and dramatic. Help!!!

He sounds like a nutcase and you are wise to move on.

One way to break it to him is with the aid of a marriage counselor. You can call one and describe your problem so the counselor can be prepared in advance.

It's not going to be easy no matter what. He will probably beg you to stay and say that it will hurt the children. But living the way you do no is already hurting them.

My best wishes are with you as you try to solve this difficult problem!
