Can't make eye contact

i live in a sm. town and attend college a half hr away in another city. i have a problem : when i see a guy i like i cant make eye contact i get to nervous. i am only confident around guys im not attracted to. there is this guy in one of my classes and i've never even had the nerve to talk to him because i get so nervous my girlfriends tell me im beautiful be i forget all about that when i see him. if i don't figure out how to fix this problem i'll never get a date. (belive it or not im going to school to become a psychologist and help others)????????????help me

The only way to overcome shyness is to prepare and become brave.

Prepare yourself for the encounter by having some conversation ready and then go for it. Another approach is honesty... just walk up to him and tell him you find him attractive but that you feel so shy around him you can't express it through simple conversation.

None of the above is easy to do, but who said life is easy :)

Your college should have a counseling service. I would also recommend that you take advantage of it.
