Friend asked girl out before I could

Ok i do not know what i should do. I like this girl alot,and there is a military ball comming up. I had planned to ask her out after practice, a few of her friends said i should. During lunch, i am walking behind one of my best friends and hes talking to her, and i over hear him asking her out to the military ball. I was quite suprised, and a bit pissed at myself for not doing it earlier. I had not told him i planned to ask her out so i can't really blame him, but he only asked her out becuase he did not want to go to the military ball alone and he was good friends with her as well. He said she had to ask her mom (her mom is a very strict woman, keeps her and her other siblings on a tight leash), but from what i overhear it isn't looking to good. Her friends say i should talk to my friend about it, but i just don't feel its the right thing to do.

So basically, what should i do?

Not much you can do if you friend wants to go thru with the date. You will have to wait for the next occasion and be quicker to ask. Sorry!
