Long distance romance not working

Visitor's Question from a 16-20 year old Female
Hi, I submited my problem awhile ago but still haven't heard back. I really need help because I feel so conflicted that I don't know what to do anymore. I've been involved with someone long distance now for over a year, I love him so much and have been waiting for the right opportunity to say it. The problem is the distance. He has been working on cruise ships and not only that, he's from Europe. We used to talk on the phone a few times a week while he was back at home, we would visit each other when we got the chance. We always used to talk about our future together and what things would be like. He told me how hard it was for him to not be with me but that it was worth fighting for and that he didnt want to meet anyone else. I told him I felt the same but he acted as if he didnt believe me and that I would run off with someone else, which is insane considering how much i love him. Recently though I havent been hearing from him often. While I was at college I emailed him a few times a month telling him what i was up to and how much I wanted to be with him. He contacted me once to say that he was really busy and would be in touch soon. That was over 2 months ago. I dont know what to do, logically i know i should either move on or give him an ultimatum but its so hard considering how much i feel for him and how badly i want things to work. There is hope for us being physically together in the future, considering my plans to go abroad. In the meantime, I dont know what to do. There could be so many reasons for why i dont hear from him, I just dont know what it could be. I know he doesnt check his mail often and its understandable hes working, but it makes no sense not to hear from him for so long considering how much i thought he felt for me. What should i do and how should i go about this? thanks for your help...

Actually your original question was answered as follows:

"DUE TO SERVER PROBLEMS, THIS EMAIL WAS NOT RECEIVED UNTIL NOW. WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE.

Long distance relationships are very tough and, unfortunately, usually fail.

Stick with your feelings and your self-respect. As much as you like this guy, there are other guys in your area who may be able to give you the time, attention and, most of all, the respect, you deserve."

I agree with that advice and think you are overly hopeful about the chances for this relationship to work. If it is going to work, you will have to take every advantage of being physically together you can.

Good luck,
George
