How to contact girl

Here is my problem..... I have taken interest in this girl. See I dont know where to go with it though. I mean when I walk by her in the hall I can see her look at me from a distance but once she gets close and I try to make eye contact or smile at her she shifts her eyes in a different direction. What does that mean?? I talked to one of her freinds and told her that I am interested in her, so I think she knows that I like her. But, see we dont EVER have a chance to talk to each other which makes it difficult to get close. I am really wanting to get to know her, but I dont know how with the circumstances. So how DO I get me & her closer together???? ..................Thank You

This is a tough one. My advice is to write a note to her telling her that you are interested and asking her for her phone number or email address. Then give the note to her friend and ask her to pass it along to her. Hopefully you will get a nice answer in reply.
