Should I tell my ex that I still love him?

Visitor's Question from a 13-15 year old Female
(i'm 20 years old female)My ex boyfriend and I dated for five years, in two month from now is going to be one year since our break-up. The only problem is that I haven’t stop loving him. I love him just as make as I ever did. I tried dating other people but I just end up hurting them because I can’t stop comparing them to him. In the back of my head I think my ex is going to come back to me and I can’t be involved with anyone. Another problem that I have it that I’m so afraid of getting involved with anybody else because I think whats the point is going to end anyways and I’m going to get hurt. I end up being a total bitch to that other person who really trying to love me. My ex boyfriend calls me all the time to talk about his girlfriends which hurts me to hear him talk about them; because I’m so in love with him. I want to tell him know how I feel but I’m afraid he won’t talk to me. I don’t want to lose him as a friend as well. His birthday is coming up and I don’t know if I should call him to wish him happy birthday. He didn’t call me when it was my birthday what should I do.

I am sorry that you are in this situation.

Yes, I would call him on his birthday even though he forgot yours. You might also wait until he is between girlfriends and ask him if he would be interested in dating you again. This approach avoids scaring him off by telling him you still love him. But it does offer an opening in case he is still interested.

If he turns you down and you still can't get over him in a few months, I would advise you get some counseling.
